About Cherry: Cherry and black cherry wood is a deciduous tree that grows in the Eastern half of North America. It is a preferred wood for cabinetry and millwork for its reddish color and beautiful grain pattern and is easy to work with. When it is being machined, it gives off a sweet, cherry smell. A light reddish brown when it is first cut, it gets darker with age. This tree does produce cherries, but they are small and typically bitter compared to the cherries you would buy at a store.
Burls-A burl is an irregular, knobby growth on the side of a tree caused by injury or disease. The healing creates a unique curly and twisting grain pattern that is dense and very attractive. Different species of trees will have different characteristics because of how the burl grows including different grain or color patterns.
