The top half of the pen pulls off of the lower half , unscrew the empty ink cartridge, screw in the refill, then push the top half of the pen back on, taking care to make the grain or pattern line up if you want a nice complete look.
-Using the pens will allow natural oils from your hands to work into the wood creating a shine and helps preserve the pen. There is no extra work needed to protect the wood.
About Cocobolo Wood: Cocobolo is a tropical hard wood found in Central America. The heartwood of the tree has the most character and is used for many projects. It is typically darker in color from orange, red, brown, and black all within the same piece causing the grain pattern to really stand out. It is a dense, oily wood that is easy to work and gives off unique smell when being machined. This wood darkens with age and can be difficult to get a good finish, but when the finish is on, the color and pattern shine wonderfully.
