About Burl: A burl is an irregular, knobby growth on the side of a tree caused by injury or disease. The healing creates a unique curly and twisting grain pattern that is dense and very attractive. Different species of trees will have different characteristics because of how the burl grows including different grain or color patterns.
About Maple: Maple is a deciduous tree found in North America, mostly in the Midwest, Northeast, Northern West Coast, and into Canada. It is a hard wood usually light in color though the heartwood can be grayish brown. It is a dense grained tree making great lumber for cabinetry and millwork projects. Maple trees can also be "tapped" in the early spring to collect sap to make maple syrup.
