-Using the pens will allow natural oils from your hands to work into the wood creating a shine and helps preserve the pen. There is no extra work needed to protect the wood.
About Spalted Maple: -Spalting is the result of different types of fungus growing in the wood. These fungi can cause changes in the color of the wood either completely or in blotches, sometimes called cream spalting. Dark irregular lines called zone lines typically form as delineations between the different colonies of fungus creating a unique and unpredictable pattern in the wood. Spalting makes the wood weaker and harder to machine but with careful work and planning, many projects can be made. Spalting is typically found in lighter colored trees like maples, birches, box elders, and even oaks.
